What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy provides an opportunity to safely express yourself and address feelings and issues in a creative and non-intrusive way.

You don’t need art experience or skills to benefit. The emphasis is on exploration, expression and creativity, not on judging the end product. Art therapy is suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds. As a registered Arts Therapist, I support you in expressing what may be difficult to put into words or can better be expressed creatively.

Working collaboratively with the Arts Therapist, the process enables you to reflect on your
situation, develop greater self knowledge, understanding and shape the future.

Individual Art Therapy sessions -  what to expect 

All sessions are tailored to understanding your situation and working together to find ways to creatively address your needs. I provide a safe and nurturing environment where you can feel comfortable and supported. 

Sessions take place in a spacious and inviting art therapy room equipped with a wide variety of art materials. Initially you may want to spend time becoming familiar with art materials which are new to you and I will help you with that process in an enjoyable and explorative way. In each session you may choose to use paint, clay, collage, textiles or drawing. You may want to talk or write. You are given the opportunity to express yourself in a way most meaningful to you. 

Together we will talk about your art process to enable you to explore and clarify any issues and to ‘see’ things differently. Whether your needs are around healing, wellbeing or personal development,  you will be supported in developing your understanding and sense of self and considering options. 

Art therapy allows us to do so in a non – threatening and creative way.
